Why Order Galvanized Round Tubing From Us

01

Sized by OD, Not Guesswork

We quote round tube by real OD and wall. If your list uses NPS or gauge, we convert it and confirm in writing.

02

Wall and Yield Checked per Lot

Fence and scaffold tube must meet a minimum yield. We test it on each lot and print the result on the certificate.

03

Clear Specifications and Bundle Labels

Round tube is supplied to agreed OD, wall, coating and standard. Every bundle is labelled, so you can check it against your order on arrival.

04

Bent and Cut to Shape

We cut, thread and groove tube in house. We also bend and punch tube to your drawing. You receive parts ready to assemble, not lengths to process.

05

8–12 Working Days Lead Time

Typical lead time is 8–12 working days. We keep 9,000 tons of galvanized pipe & tube in stock (out of 80,000 tons in total). Special walls take 2–3 weeks, depending on the order.

Galvanized Steel Round Pipe for Fences, Scaffolds and Frames

A round section resists bending equally in every direction. It also sheds wind and water better than a box. That is why galvanized steel round pipe is the first choice for posts, rails, scaffolds and handrails.

Galvanized tubular pipe is light for its strength. A galvanized hollow pipe of the right wall can replace solid bar at a fraction of the weight. The zinc keeps it working outdoors for years without paint.

How to Choose Galvanized Pipe for Fence Posts, Scaffolds and Frames

Fence Pipe: Wall Class Decides the Price

Galvanized pipe for fence posts comes in three product classes. Residential tube is thin, often 16 gauge. Schedule 40 is heavy pipe, the same wall as plumbing pipe. SS40 fence tube sits in between. It uses higher-strength steel with a lighter wall.

For a home chain link fence, 16 gauge top rail and line posts are enough. For commercial, school and security fences, order Schedule 40 galvanized fence posts. SS40 is a good middle choice where you need strength but want to cut weight and freight.

The galvanized pipe for chain link fence follows ASTM F1083 for Schedule 40, and F1043 for the other classes. Ask for the class by name, not just “heavy” or “light”.

Gauge and Thin Wall Tubing

Thin wall galvanized tubing is sold by gauge in the US. 18 gauge is about 1.2 mm. 16 gauge is about 1.5 mm. 14 gauge is about 1.9 mm. A higher number means a thinner wall.

Some lists ask for 16 gauge galvanized pipe with a fence OD, such as 1-3/8″ or 1-5/8″. That is top rail tube. A 26 gauge pipe is about 0.45 mm. That is sheet metal duct, not tube. We do not supply it.

Scaffold Tube

Scaffold tube is 48.3 mm OD worldwide. The wall decides the load rating. 4.0 mm tube is the safe default. 3.2 mm tube is lighter, but needs higher-strength steel to meet EN 39 Type 3. Do not mix the two on one scaffold.

Galvanised scaffold poles must be hot-dip galvanized. Fittings clamp onto the outside, so a smooth, even coat matters. Ask us for the yield test result with each lot.

Structural Round Pipe

For canopies, pipe racks and greenhouse frames, ask for a structural grade. EN 10219 S355J2H and ASTM A500 Grade C are common. Galvanized structural pipe is often welded into frames after delivery. Weld it black and hot-dip the frame when you can.

Bending Galvanized Pipe

Curved galvanized pipe is common in greenhouses, playgrounds and handrails. Thin walls bend easily but may kink. For tight radii, choose a thicker wall. Hot-dip coating can crack on a sharp bend, so we bend first and galvanize after when possible. Half pipe, split along its length, is made to order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size galvanized pipe is used for fence posts?

Line posts are usually 1-7/8" or 2-3/8" OD. Terminal posts are 2-3/8" or 2-7/8" OD. Gate posts for wide gates go up to 4". The top rail is 1-3/8" or 1-5/8". Wall depends on the fence height and wind load.

What is SS40 galvanized pipe?

SS40 is a fence industry term for high-strength, lighter-wall tube. It aims to meet or exceed Schedule 40 strength with less steel It is common for commercial chain link fences. Tell us if your spec names SS40 or Schedule 40, as walls differ.

Is gal pipe for fencing the same as plumbing pipe?

Not always. Schedule 40 fence pipe has the same OD and wall as plumbing pipe. Lighter galvanised pipe for fencing has a thinner wall and is not rated for pressure. Never use fence tube for water lines.

Can galvanized round tubing be bent after galvanizing?

Yes, for gentle bends. The zinc may flake on tight bends. For tight radii, bend first and galvanize after. Touch up any flaked spots with zinc-rich paint.

How much does galvanized round pipe cost?

Price depends on OD, wall, coating and quantity. Bending and cutting add cost. Send your list, and we will quote within 2–4 working hours. Quotes are valid for 3 days.
