Galvanized Steel Coil & GI Coil
We supply galvanized steel coil from 0.09 to 3.0 mm thick, and up to 6.0 mm (4–6 mm on hot-rolled base, made to order), in widths of 1000, 1219, 1250 and 1500 mm (max. 1500 mm). Coils come on 508 or 610 mm ID, with Z40 to Z275 zinc (up to Z600), as mill coils, slit coils or recoiled coils.
Coil weight set to your crane and decoiler: we recoil master coils into 4–5 ton small coils or 8–10 ton large coils (up to 12 tons)
Width tolerance and thickness tolerance to EN 10143 or ASTM A924, measured at both coil ends
Zinc coating weight checked on every order and printed on the mill test certificate
Zinc coated on our own continuous line in Wuxi, 20,000 tons a month; each coil traceable by its coil number
Why Buy GI Coil From Us
Coils That Fit Your Line
We ask for your decoiler limits before we book the order. Coil ID, outer diameter and weight arrive matched to your mandrel and crane. If a full coil is too heavy, we split it on our own recoiling line.
Gauge Checked Head and Tail
Thickness drifts most at coil ends. We check head and tail of each coil, so the middle is not the only part that meets spec.
One Coil, One Tag, One Certificate Line
Every coil tag shows grade, size, coat, spangle and coil number. The same number appears on the certificate, so your QC can trace any coil.
Zinc Coated on Our Own Line
MTS is a steel group in Wuxi, Jiangsu, with a 60,000 m² site for production, warehousing and processing. Our continuous hot-dip galvanizing line coats 20,000 tons a month, so you deal with the plant that coats your coil.
Slitting Before Shipping
Narrow widths are slit on our own slitting line, from 15 mm wide (very narrow strip costs more). Tell us your unwinding direction, and we wind the coils to suit your feeding equipment. See our processing capabilities for full ranges.
8–12 Working Days Lead Time
Typical lead time is 8–12 working days for coil and coil processing, and shorter for sizes in stock.
Galvanized Sheet Metal Coils for Continuous Production
A galvanized steel coil is a long steel strip coated with zinc and wound into a roll. Markets name it in many ways. You may see GI coil, GI steel coil, galvanized iron coil, zinc steel coils, or galvanized sheet coil. In India, buyers often order GP coils, short for galvanized plain.
Coil is how galvanized steel feeds a production line. A roll former, a tube mill or a coil coater runs it without stopping for each sheet. That cuts handling, scrap at sheet ends, and labor. If your line runs one width every week, galvanised steel coil is almost always cheaper per finished part than cut sheet.

How to Specify a Galvanized Coil Order for Your Line
A sheet order is mostly about size. A coil order is also about your machine. Most coil problems we see come from details nobody wrote down.
Start With Your Decoiler
Your decoiler sets three limits: inner diameter, outer diameter and weight. A 610 mm ID coil will not sit on a 508 mm mandrel. A 10 ton coil will not lift on a 5 ton crane.
Send these limits with your first enquiry. We recoil master coils to fit, as 4–5 ton small coils or 8–10 ton large coils (up to 12 tons), before they ship. Splitting a coil after it arrives costs money and time.
How Long Is a Coil?
You buy galvanized coil by weight, but your line uses it by length. Here is the quick check.
Length (m) = coil weight (kg) ÷ (7.85 × thickness in mm × width in m)
A 5-ton coil of 0.5 mm × 1.2 m gives about 1,060 m of strip. The zinc adds a little weight, so the real length is slightly shorter. Use this to plan how many coils one roofing job or one shift needs.
Base Steel: Cold-Rolled or Hot-Rolled
Most GI coil up to 2 mm uses a cold-rolled base. It gives tight gauge control and a smooth face. Heavier galvanized rolled coil can use a hot-rolled, pickled base at lower cost. Its surface is rougher, so keep it for hidden parts.
Slit Coil or Master Coil?
If your line runs narrow strip, you have two choices. Buy master coils and slit them yourself. Or buy galvanized slit coil cut to width.
Slitting yourself pays when you run many widths from one master width. Buying slit coil pays when you have no slitter or run few widths. Always ask how the edge scrap is charged. Some suppliers price slit coil on the master coil weight.
Matching Coil to Roofing Sheet Work
Roofing mills run thin coil fast. Flatness and even coat matter more than anywhere else. Choose Z120 or more for bare roofing. Choose zero spangle and paint-ready treatment if the coil goes to a color coating line first.
Stock Coil vs Mill Order
Galvanized coil stock in a warehouse ships fast. But stock widths and coats are fixed. A mill order takes longer, yet you get your exact width, coat and coil weight. For steady monthly use, a mill order plus a small stock buffer works best. We hold 12,000 tons of galvanized coil, sheet and plate in stock (out of 80,000 tons in total), in standard grades and sizes
Keep Coils Dry
Water inside a coil does more harm than rain on a sheet. It sits between the wraps and causes white rust within days. Store coils indoors, eye horizontal, off the floor. Check the outer wraps on arrival. If any pack is wet, open it at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between GI coil and GP coils?
None in the steel itself. GI means galvanized iron, and GP means galvanized plain. Both name zinc-coated steel coil with no paint. GP coils is common wording in India. GI coil is used across Asia, the Gulf and Africa.
Is galvanized steel sheet in coil the same as galvanized sheet?
Yes, it is the same coated steel. Galvanized sheet is cut to length from these coils. Buyers sometimes write "galv sheet and coil" on one enquiry, and we can quote both from the same spec.
What thickness can a galvanized steel coil have?
Our range is 0.09 to 3.0 mm, and up to 6.0 mm on request. Thin coil under 0.5 mm is common for roofing. Heavier coil suits framing, purlins and tube making.
What coil weight should I order?
Order the heaviest coil your decoiler and crane can take. Heavier coils mean fewer changeovers and less end scrap. We recoil to 4–5 ton small coils or 8–10 ton large coils (up to 12 tons) on 508 or 610 mm ID, so send us your crane limit and decoiler ID.
Can you supply cold rolled galvanized steel coil in thin gauges?
Yes. Cold-rolled base allows thin galvanized coil from 0.09 mm, with tight gauge tolerance. Thin coil is mainly used for roofing sheet and coil coating. Tell us your width and coat for a quote.
What affects GI coil price?
Galvanized steel coil prices follow base steel and zinc, which often move week by week. Thickness matters too, as thin coil costs more per ton to roll. Coat weight, grade, width and order size also count. For a galvanized coil price, a galvanised steel coil price or a GI sheet coil price, send your spec and quantity. We reply within 2–4 working hours. Quotes are valid for 3 days.
Why does galvanized rolled coil price differ between suppliers?
Quotes often compare different things. One may quote Z80, another Z120. One may quote a looser thickness tolerance. Check the coat class, grade, thickness tolerance and coil weight in each quote before you compare prices.
