Why Buy SS Strip From MTS
Width Cut for Your Die
Tell us your die or tube mill width. Our 10 slitting lines cut to that width, from 20mm up, not to the nearest standard size. You stop trimming every coil before it goes on the press.
Edge Chosen for the Next Step
Slit edge for tube welding, deburred edge for stamping, rounded edge for hand-handled parts. We agree burr height before slitting.
Temper on the Certificate
Annealed, 1/4 hard, 1/2 hard or full hard. Hardness and tensile strength are printed on the certificate. You do not have to test every coil yourself.
Coil Size That Fits Your Decoiler
Inner diameter 508 or 610 or 760mm, outer diameter and coil weight are set to your line. Our 7 recoiling lines split master coils into smaller coils, down to a few hundred kg for thin gauges. Small coils for trial runs.
Processing Capacity, Stock and Delivery
Our plant processes up to 100,000 tons a month. It is backed by 80,000 tons of steel in 60,000 m² of warehouse space in Wuxi. Our own cranes load every container, and orders ship from Shanghai, Qingdao or Tianjin.
Cold Rolled Strip: Tighter Size, Better Surface
Almost all stainless steel strip is cold rolled. Wide coil is rolled thinner at room temperature, annealed, then slit to width. We run all three steps on our own lines. Cold rolled stainless steel strip holds a tighter thickness than sheet. It also has a smoother, more even surface.
That matters on an automatic line. A press with a progressive die needs every part to come out the same. A tube mill needs a stable width to keep the weld seam straight.
So send us what the strip will become, not only the size. A clip, a hose clamp and a welded tube can all use 0.8mm 304. Each needs a different temper, edge and tolerance.
If you need a fast load, ask for our SS strip stock sizes.

304 / 304L Stainless Steel Strip
The grade most buyers start with. 304 stainless strip forms, welds and polishes well, and it resists indoor and mild outdoor corrosion. Used for tube, kitchen parts, clamps, and trim. Choose 304L stainless steel strip if you weld thick sections. Example: SS 304 strips, 2B, 0.5mm × 25mm, in coil.

0.5mm × 10mm stainless steel strip
Gaskets, small stampings
1 inch stainless steel strips are common in North American orders. We slit to inch widths on request.
Our slitting lines cut from 20mm wide. Parts narrower than that, such as 10mm clips, are usually blanked from 20mm or wider strip.
Strip, Sheet or Flat Bar
Stainless steel strip is flat material up to about 600mm wide, usually supplied in coil. Sheet is wider and sold in flat lengths. Stainless steel sheet metal strips cut from sheet can work for small batches. But for volume, slit strip costs less and has a cleaner edge.
Flat bar is a different product. It is hot rolled or cold drawn, and usually 3mm or thicker. Its edges are rounded or square from the mill. Choose flat bar for heavy brackets. Choose strip when you need thin gauges, long coils or a bright finish.
Choosing the Grade
Start with the environment, then the forming.
For indoor parts that are formed or welded, 304 is the safe default. If the part sees salt, pool water or chlorine cleaners, go to 316L. For indoor trim that must be cheap and can be magnetic, 430 works well.
201 saves money on indoor tube and furniture. Do not use it near the coast or in wet kitchens, as it rusts faster than 304. For parts that must be hardened after forming, use 410 or 420.
Choosing the Temper
Temper is how hard the strip is. Annealed strip is soft and bends easily. Hard tempers are stronger but crack if bent too tight.
As a rule, use annealed strip for deep drawing and tight bends. Use 1/4 or 1/2 hard for parts that must hold shape, like brackets and clamps. Spring parts need 3/4 hard or full hard 301. Always give your tightest bend radius when you order.
Thickness and Width Tolerance
Cold rolled strip is sold to standard or precision tolerance. Standard tolerance is fine for most stamping and trim. Precision tolerance costs more, so ask for it only where it matters, such as shims or thin springs.
Width tolerance depends on the slitter, not the mill. A narrow strip for a tube mill or progressive die needs tight width. Write the tolerance on your drawing rather than "standard".
Edge Condition
A slit edge has a small burr. That is fine for welding into tube, where the edge is melted anyway. For stamped parts handled by hand, ask for a deburred or rounded edge. Square edges are used where strips butt together.
Coil Size and Packing
Check your decoiler ID before you order. We recoil on 508 or 610mm ID. Then give a maximum coil weight or outer diameter.
Thin strip in long lengths can come oscillate wound on a spool. One spool can hold several tons, so you change coils less often. It suits high-speed presses and tube mills.
Stock or Mill Order
Stock strip ships fast, but only in common grades, gauges and widths. A mill order takes longer, and you choose every detail. Many buyers take stock for the first order and switch to mill orders once the size is proven.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does stainless steel strip cost per kg?
It depends on grade, thickness, width and temper. 304 strip in common sizes is priced close to 304 coil plus a slitting charge. Thin, narrow or hard-temper strip costs more per kg. Nickel prices move the base cost each month. Send your size and quantity for a current SS strip price.
Is 304 stainless steel strip magnetic?
Annealed 304 strip is non-magnetic, or only very slightly. After cold rolling to a hard temper, it becomes partly magnetic. That is normal and does not mean the grade is wrong. If your part must be non-magnetic, order annealed strip and tell us.
What is the minimum width you can slit?
We slit stainless strip down to 20mm wide on our own lines, in thicknesses up to 14mm (16mm on request). Very narrow widths in thick gauges may twist, so the ratio of width to thickness matters. Send your size and we will confirm before quoting.
Can I buy small quantities of stainless steel strip for a trial?
Yes, from stock sizes. We can ship small coils or cut lengths with a production order or by courier.
What is the difference between 2B and BA strip?
2B is a smooth, slightly dull cold rolled finish. BA (bright annealed) is annealed in a protective gas and comes out bright and reflective. Choose BA for visible parts that will not be polished. Choose 2B for parts that will be formed, welded or painted.
How is stainless steel strip packed for export?
Coils are wrapped in waterproof paper and plastic film, then packed in wooden cases or on pallets. Thin or bright strip gets paper interleaving to prevent scratches. Cut lengths are bundled and boxed. Each package carries grade, size, heat number and weight.
