Why Buy Galvanised Steel Sheets From Us

Thickness You Can Measure

Thickness You Can Measure

We quote base-metal thickness and total thickness separately. You know exactly what your 0.5 mm sheet means before it ships.

Zinc Weight in Grams, Not Adjectives

Each order states the coat as Z or G class, such as Z120 or G90. Lot test results go on the certificate.

Zinc Coated on Our Own Line

Zinc Coated on Our Own Line

MTS is a steel group in Wuxi, Jiangsu, with a 60,000 m² site for production, warehousing and processing. Our continuous hot-dip galvanizing line coats 20,000 tons a month. Each bundle carries a tag with grade, size, coat and coil number.

Cut, Slit and Formed in House

Cut, Slit and Formed in House

We cut coil to length on our own line, 0.25–16 mm thick (up to 20 mm on request) and 300–2000 mm wide, with length tolerance of ±2–3 mm. For parts, a 6 kW fiber laser cuts shapes and holes from your drawing, and 160 t press brakes bend up to 3,200 mm long. Coil can also be slit to strips from 15 mm wide. See our processing capabilities for full ranges.

Typical lead time is 8–12 working days, and shorter for sizes in stock. For laser-cut and bent parts, we confirm the lead time with your quote.

Zinc Coated Steel Sheet That Works Bare or Painted

Zinc Coated Steel Sheet That Works Bare or Painted

A galvanized steel sheet is cold-rolled or hot-rolled mild steel coated with zinc. Some markets call it galvanized iron sheet, GI sheet or simply gal sheet. Others say zinc sheet or zinc coated steel sheet. All of them mean steel sheet coated with zinc on both sides.

The zinc gives you two layers of protection. It seals the steel from air and water. Where the coat is cut or scratched, the zinc corrodes first and protects the edge. That is why bare galvanized sheet works for ducts, cabinets and building parts without paint. It also takes paint or powder well when you need a colored finish.

How to Order Galvanized Sheet Metal Without Surprises

Galvanized sheet looks simple. Yet most disputes come from three gaps: thickness, coating and size. A few lines in your enquiry close all three.

Thickness: Base Metal or Total?

A 1 mm sheet can mean 1.00 mm steel before zinc, or 1.00 mm after zinc. Z275 adds about 0.04 mm in total. On thin gauges, that gap matters for your forming tools and your cost.

Tell us which one your drawing uses. If you order by gauge, give the inch value too. A "22 ga" sheet from one market may not match another market's table.

Thin galvanized steel sheet, under 0.4 mm, is used for ducts and roofing accessories. Thick galvanized sheet metal, 2 mm and up, goes into brackets, cabinets and structural parts. Above about 3 mm, look at Galvanized Steel Plate instead.

Coating: Match the Zinc to the Job

More zinc means longer life outdoors, but a higher price. Choose the zinc weight by the site, not by the price. For indoor framing and painted panels, Z60–Z100 is usually enough. For outdoor buildings, fences and decks, and for coastal or humid air, choose Z180 or above, up to Z275.

Bare galvanized sheet means sheet sold as coated, with no paint on top. If you plan to paint, ask for zero spangle and no oil. Chromate passivation can block some paints.

Flat Galvanized Sheet vs Coil

Flat galvanized sheet suits shops that cut by hand or by CNC. Coil suits roll formers and high-volume stamping. If you use more than 28 tons a month of one width, coil is usually cheaper. Below that, flat galvanised sheets for sale from stock save you a slitting line.

How to Convert kg to sqm

Steel weighs 7.85 kg per m² for each 1 mm of thickness. So 1 mm GI sheet weighs about 7.85 kg/m², plus the zinc. Z275 adds 0.275 kg/m².

To convert GI sheet kg to sqm, divide 1000 by (7.85 × thickness in mm). One ton of 0.5 mm sheet covers about 255 m². One 4x8 sheet of galvanized metal at 0.5 mm weighs about 11.7 kg.

Can You Weld, Braze or Solder It?

Yes, with care. MIG and TIG welding galvanized sheet metal both work. The zinc burns off near the weld and gives off fumes. Weld with extraction, then touch up the joint with zinc-rich paint.

Welding thin galvanized steel is easier with low heat and short runs. Brazing and soldering work well on thin sheet, as long as you clean the surface first. For GI sheet welding on a production line, ask us for lightly oiled or dry sheet to suit your process.

Galvanized vs Non Galvanized Sheet Metal

Non galvanized sheet metal, such as cold-rolled steel, costs less. It needs paint or oil to stop rust. Choose it only if you paint every part soon after cutting. For anything stored outdoors or shipped by sea, galvanized sheet saves rework.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GI sheet the same as galvanized steel sheet?

Yes. GI stands for galvanized iron, an old name that stuck. Today GI sheet, galv steel sheet and galvanized steel sheet all mean mild steel coated with zinc. Galvanized iron GI sheet on a tender means the same product.

Is galvanized sheet metal magnetic?

Yes. The zinc layer is thin, and the steel under it is magnetic. A magnet holds firmly on galvanized steel sheet. This also lets you use magnetic lifters in your shop. Stainless and aluminum sheets behave differently.

How is galvanized sheet made?

Most galvanized sheet comes from continuous galvanizing. Cold-rolled coil is cleaned, annealed and passed through molten zinc at about 460 °C. Air knives set the coat weight. The coil is then cut into sheets.

What thickness is 18 gauge galvanized steel?

18 ga galvanized steel is about 1.31 mm, or 0.0516 inch. 20 ga is about 1.01 mm and 16 ga about 1.61 mm. See the gauge chart above, and quote the mm value on your order.

What is GPSP sheet?

GPSP means galvanized plain sheet, usually with spangle. GP sheet and GI plain sheet are the same product. It is flat, not corrugated, and is used for ducting, panels and fabrication.

Can you make custom galvanized sheet metal parts?

We supply flat sheets cut to size. For galvanized sheet metal fabrication and gi sheet fabrication to drawing, we laser cut parts on a 6 kW fiber laser with a 6000 × 2000 mm bed, then bend them on 160 t press brakes up to 3,200 mm long, ±0.5°. Send a DXF, DWG or STEP file with the quantity. Welded assemblies in galvanized sheet.

How much does 1 mm GI sheet cost?

Price depends on thickness, zinc coat, grade and quantity. Steel and zinc prices move it week to week. Send your size list, including any 2mm, 3mm or 4x8 sizes, and we will quote within 2–4 working hours. Quotes are valid for 3 days.
