We supply prime hot dipped galvanized steel coils from 0.09 to 3.0 mm thick, and up to 6.0 mm (4–6 mm on hot-rolled base, made to order), with Z40 to Z275 zinc (up to Z600). Every coil comes from our own continuous zinc line in Wuxi, with its own test results and coil number.

Every coil we ship is prime, with its own coil number and test results

Coating weight checked on every order, by triple-spot test across the width

Edge build-up and dross checked before packing

Recoiled to 4–5 ton small coils or 8–10 ton large coils (up to 12 tons) on 508 or 610 mm ID, to suit your crane and decoiler

Why Buy HDG Coils From Us

01

Prime Means Prime

Every prime coil conforms to the ordered specification across the full coil length. Rewound ends are excluded from all prime shipments.

02

Zinc Measured Edge to Edge

A coil can meet its average coat and still be thin at one edge. We test three points across the width, not one.

03

Coil numbers for Traceability

Each coil has an identification number for traceability, allowing you to match it with the corresponding quality documents.

04

Coated on Our Own Continuous Line

Our continuous hot-dip galvanizing line in Wuxi coats 20,000 tons a month. Your repeat orders run on the same line, to the same spec.

05

Loading Photos Before Sailing

You receive photos of coils, tags and container loading before the ship leaves.

Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel Coils close-up

A Hot Dipped Galvanised Coil Built for Long Production Runs

A hot dipped galvanized coil runs through molten zinc as one continuous strip. The coat bonds to the steel through a thin alloy layer. It stays on through roll forming, bending and seaming. How the line works is explained on our Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Sheet page.

What matters on your line is consistency over the whole coil. The coat, the gauge and the flatness should not change from head to tail. A good hot dipped steel coil lets your roll former run hours without adjustment. That is the real reason to pay for prime.

Buying Prime HDG Coils: What to Check Before and After Shipment

Two quotes for "hot dipped galvanized coil" can list the same size and coat and still run differently on your line. The difference sits in coat spread, edges and flatness. These are the checks that matter.

What Prime Means

A prime coil meets the full order spec. Thickness, width, coat, flatness and surface all sit inside tolerance over the whole length, and the coil carries its own number on the certificate. Every coil we supply is a prime hot dipped galvanized steel coil.

Check the Certificate Before You Pay

Ask for the mill certificate before shipment, not after. Check that the coil number on it matches the tag photo. A prime certificate carries the order coat and the order size. A missing certificate, or one in another size, is a warning.

Ask also for photos of the coil eye and both edges. Heavy edge build-up, wavy edges and rust in the eye all point to a coil that was stored too long or handled badly. It is cheaper to find that before the container is loaded.

Coat Weight: Read the Right Number

Z275 is a triple-spot average, both sides added. One spot can legally be lower. One side can also carry more zinc than the other. If both sides face weather, ask for an even coat. If one side faces inside, a differential coat may save cost.

Edge Build-Up and Your Roll Former

Zinc tends to pile up a little at strip edges. A heavy edge makes the coil wind tight at the sides. On a roll former, it can cause waves and poor stacking. Ask how the mill controls it, especially for thin coil.

Where Coil Quality Shows Most

Coil quality shows most in visible and warrantied products. Roofing, wall panels and coated products expose every bare spot, dross lump and wavy edge. For these jobs, write the coat, spangle and flatness into the order, and run the first coils through your line before you call up the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are HDG coils?

HDG coils are hot-dip galvanized steel coils. The steel strip is coated in molten zinc on a continuous line, then wound into a coil. They are the most common galvanized coil for roofing, framing and tube making.

What does "prime" mean on hot dipped galvanized steel coils?

Prime means the coil meets the full order spec over its length. It carries its own coil number, and the test results for that coil go on the mill certificate.

How thick is the zinc on a Z275 hot dipped galvanised coil?

Z275 means 275 g/m² of zinc, both sides combined. That is roughly 19 µm per side. Real thickness varies slightly across the width, which is why the triple-spot test is used.

Can you supply HDG coils with a different coat on each side?

Yes. We can apply a differential coat, such as more zinc on the outside face. It is used where only one side is exposed. Tell us the coat for each side when you enquire.

Is a hot dipped steel coil better than an electro galvanized coil?

For outdoor use, yes. Hot-dip coats are much heavier, often Z100 to Z275. Electro galvanized coil has a thin, smooth coat for painted indoor parts. Choose by exposure and finish.

How do I check HDG coil quality when it arrives?

Check packing and the coil eye for water first. Match the tag to the certificate. Then unroll the first wraps and look for dross, bare spots, wavy edges and heavy edge zinc. Report any issue with photos before processing.
