Electro Galvanized Steel Sheet

Electro Galvanized Steel Sheet

Electro Galvanized Steel Sheet Supplier

We supply electro galvanized steel sheet and coil, 0.3 to 2.0 mm thick. The zinc is plated, not dipped, so the surface is smooth, even and free of spangle.

Zinc from 3 to 40 g/m² per side, set separately for each side

SECC to JIS G3313 and DC01+ZE to DC04+ZE to EN 10152

Phosphated, chromate-free or anti-fingerprint treatment for your finish line

Thickness tolerance as tight as cold-rolled sheet, since plating adds almost nothing

Why Order Electro Galvanized Sheet Metal From Us

01

Surface Ready for Paint

EG sheet has no spangle and no dross. Paint and powder go on smooth. Your rejects from surface marks drop.

02

Coat per Side, Your Way

Plating lets each side carry a different weight. Put more zinc where the part faces the weather, and less inside.

03

Cold-Rolled Base With Tight Gauge

The base is quality cold-rolled steel. The plated coat is a few microns, so your press sees a near-exact gauge.

04

Treatment Matched to Your Line

Choose phosphate for paint, anti-fingerprint for bare panels, or chromate-free for RoHS-sensitive goods.

05

Lead Time Confirmed With Your Quote

Lead time depends on size, coat and treatment, and we confirm it with your quote.

Electro Galvanized Steel Sheet close-up

A Thin, Even Zinc Layer for Show Surfaces

Electro galvanizing coats cold-rolled strip with zinc by electric current, in a plating bath at room temperature. No molten zinc is involved. The zinc builds up atom by atom, so it is thin, smooth and uniform.

That surface is the reason to buy EG. Appliance doors, computer cases and control panels need a flawless finish after painting. The steel underneath keeps its cold-rolled properties, because it never meets 460 °C zinc. You get the forming of cold-rolled steel with the rust protection of zinc.

Electro Galvanized or Hot-Dip: Choosing for Your Part

Both products are zinc-coated steel. But they are made in different ways, and they solve different problems. Most wrong orders come from choosing on price alone.

How the Two Coats Differ

Hot-dip sheet runs through molten zinc. It picks up 30 to 140 g/m² per side, with a thin alloy layer underneath. Electro galvanized sheet is plated. It carries far less zinc, often 3 to 20 g/m² per side, as pure zinc.

So hot-dip protects longer in weather. Electro galvanized protects well under paint and indoors. It also looks better and holds closer tolerances.

When EG Is the Right Choice

Choose EG steel sheet when the part will be painted and seen. Washing machines, ovens, PCs and electrical panels are typical. Choose it when the press work is deep and the coat must not flake. And choose it when gauge tolerance matters, such as for precise snap-fit parts.

When Hot-Dip Is Better

Choose hot-dip for roofing, ducts, outdoor frames and anything unpainted outside. The thin EG coat will not last long in rain and sun. Hot-dip also costs less per unit of zinc.

Watch the Treatment

Many problems with EG come from the treatment, not the zinc. Phosphated sheet is for paint lines. Anti-fingerprint sheet is for bare use; paint may not stick to it. Oiled sheet must be cleaned before painting. Tell us your process, and we will match the treatment.

British and Asian Names

UK buyers may write electro galvanised steel sheet or “Zintec”. In Asia, SECC and EGI are common. “EG” is the short form in most of the market. All of these point to the same plated product, but grades and coat weights still need to be stated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EG sheet?

EG sheet is electro galvanized steel sheet. It is cold-rolled steel plated with a thin, even layer of zinc. It has no spangle and is mainly used for painted panels, appliances and electrical enclosures.

What is SECC steel?

SECC is the Japanese JIS G3313 grade for electro galvanized commercial quality sheet. It is the most common EG grade in Asia. SECD and SECE are the drawing and deep drawing versions.

Can electro galvanized sheet be used outdoors?

Only when painted or protected. The zinc layer is thin, often under 3 µm. Bare outdoors, it will show rust much sooner than hot-dip sheet. For bare outdoor parts, choose hot-dip galvanized.

Can you weld electro galvanized steel?

Yes. The thin zinc layer makes spot welding easier than on hot-dip sheet. Electrode life is longer and fumes are less. Remove any anti-fingerprint film from weld areas if your process needs bare contact.

What is the electro galvanized steel sheet price compared with hot-dip?

EG sheet usually costs more per ton than hot-dip of similar thickness. The plating line is slower and the base is quality cold-rolled steel. Grade, coat and treatment also affect cost. Send your spec, and we will quote within 2–4 working hours, or within 8 working hours for custom specs.
