Why Buy 304 Sheet From MTS

01

Cut and Finished on Our Own Lines

Our 20 cut-to-length lines cut 304 coil into sheets in your length, up to 6000mm. No.4, hairline and 8K mirror finishes are done on our own lines, up to 2000mm wide. Film goes on before cutting, so the finish side stays clean.

02

One Spec Sheet for Every Order

Each quote comes with a 304 spec sheet. It lists chemistry, mechanical properties, tolerances and finish. Your engineer can approve it before you place the order.

03

Finish Matched Across the Batch

Brushed and hairline sheets for one project are cut from the same coil where possible. Panels installed side by side show the same grain and tone.

04

Sizes Ready for Your Line

Standard 4x8 (1219×2438mm) and 1500×3000mm sheets ship from stock. Sheets can also be cut to your blank size, with PVC or laser film on the finish side.

05

Processed and Shipped From Wuxi

We process up to 100,000 tons a month and hold 80,000 tons in our Wuxi warehouses, which cover 60,000 m². Our own cranes load each container for Shanghai, Qingdao or Tianjin.

304 Sheet That Bends and Draws Without Cracking

Most 304 sheet ends up formed. It is bent into cabinets, drawn into sinks, or rolled into tank shells. That puts the focus on how the sheet behaves in your press, not only on its chemistry.

Standard 304 bends well at tight radii. For deep-drawn sinks and pots, tell us the part and the draw depth, and we will recommend the thickness and finish.

Tell us what you make and the draw depth. We will match the sheet to the job, not just to the grade name.

304 Stainless Steel Sheet Types

304 2B stainless steel sheet with matte finish

304 2B Sheet

Cold rolled, smooth matte finish. The standard choice for equipment, tanks and parts you will polish later. Example: 304 2B sheet, 1.0mm, 1219×2438mm.

304 BA bright annealed stainless steel sheet with reflective surface

304 BA Sheet

Bright annealed, near-mirror surface. Used for appliance panels, kitchenware and trim. Example: 304 BA sheet, 0.6mm, 1219×2438mm.

304 No.4 brushed stainless steel sheet surface

304 No.4 Brushed Sheet

Short grain lines that hide fingerprints and light scratches. The usual 304 finish for commercial kitchens and wall cladding.

304 8K mirror stainless steel sheet

304 Hairline and 8K Mirror Sheet

Long hairline grain for elevator doors and lift cabins. 8K mirror for signage, ceilings and decorative panels.

304L stainless steel sheets laid out for inspection

304L Sheet

Low-carbon version for heavily welded parts, such as tanks and welded frames. Most 304 sheet today is dual-certified 304/304L.

From 3 to 6mm, 304 comes both cold rolled and hot rolled. For hot rolled plate from 3mm, or 6mm and thicker, see our 304 Stainless Steel Plate.

304 Stainless Steel Sheet: Names, Specs and How to Buy It

304 is the most traded stainless steel grade in the world. That also makes it the grade with the most names, the widest price spread and the most substitution. This guide helps you read quotes, compare suppliers and check what arrives.

One Grade, Many Names

Suppliers and drawings call the same grade by different names. All of the following mean 304, or a grade very close to it:

  • AISI 304 – the old American designation, still the most common on drawings
  • UNS S30400 – the designation used in ASTM standards
  • SS304 / SS 304 – trade shorthand, common in India and the Middle East
  • SUS304 – the Japanese JIS designation
  • 1.4301 / X5CrNi18-10 – the European EN designation
  • 06Cr19Ni10 – the Chinese GB designation
  • 18-8 – an old name for the 300 series, from about 18% chromium and 8% nickel
  • T304 – “type 304”, used in older US specifications

An 18-8 stainless steel sheet is usually 304, but not always. 18-8 is a family, not a grade. If your drawing says 18-8, confirm the exact grade before you order.

How to Read a 304 Spec Sheet

A 304 stainless steel spec sheet should state four things. These are the standard, the chemistry, the mechanical properties and the finish.

Check nickel first. ASTM A240 requires at least 8.0% for 304. A sheet with 6–7% nickel may look and feel like 304, but it is not. It will pit sooner in wet or salty conditions.

Check carbon next. If you will weld thick sections, carbon at or below 0.030% means the sheet also meets 304L. Most mills now dual-certify for that reason.

Then compare the mechanical values with the table above. Very high hardness on a 2B sheet can mean poor annealing. That sheet may crack on tight bends.

304 vs 304L

Choose plain 304 for most bent, cut and lightly welded parts. It is the default and the easiest to source.

Choose 304L when you weld a lot or weld thicker gauges. The low carbon prevents chromium carbides at the weld. Those carbides cause weld decay in corrosive service.

If your part will sit near the sea or in chlorinated water, neither is the right answer. That is where 316 sheet earns its higher price.

Choosing a 304 Finish

The finish should match what happens to the sheet next. Buy 2B if you will polish, paint or hide the part. Buy BA for bright appliance panels without extra polishing. Buy No.4 or hairline when the brushed surface is the final face.

For food-contact surfaces, smoother is easier to clean. 2B and BA have lower roughness than coarse brushed finishes. Ask for the Ra value if your customer specifies one.

From Price per kg to Price per Sheet

We can supply sheets by count or weight, depending on your preference. The agreed basis is clearly stated in the sales contract.

Why 304 Quotes Differ So Much

Two quotes for “304 sheet” can be 20% apart. The usual reasons are nickel content, the mill, the finish and the tolerance.

Low-nickel sheet is cheaper to make. Some suppliers roll it close to the 8% limit, and some go under it. Thin tolerance, premium finishes and film add cost. A quote far below the market should make you ask for the mill certificate first.

How to Check 304 Sheets on Arrival

Match the heat number on the sheet to the certificate. Measure thickness at several points on a few sheets.

A magnet test does not prove the grade. Cold-worked 304 can be slightly magnetic, and some 201 is not magnetic at all. The mill certificate is the check that counts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SS 304 sheet price per kg today?

The 304 price moves with the nickel market, often week to week. Thickness, finish and quantity also change it. Thin BA or mirror sheet costs more per kg than thick 2B. Send us your thickness, size, finish and tonnage. We will quote today's price per kg within 2–4 working hours, valid for 3 days.

Is SUS304 the same as AISI 304?

Yes, for practical purposes. SUS304 is the Japanese JIS name and AISI 304 is the American name. Their chemistry ranges overlap almost fully. Small differences exist in some limits, such as nickel. If your project names one standard, ask us to certify to that standard.

Is 18-8 stainless steel sheet the same as 304?

In most cases, yes. 18-8 means about 18% chromium and 8% nickel, which describes 304. But 18-8 is a family name, and older usage can include 302 or 305. Order by grade and standard, such as 304 to ASTM A240, to avoid confusion.

Can I get a 304 stainless steel spec sheet before ordering?

Yes. We send a spec sheet with every quote. It covers the standard, chemistry, mechanical properties, thickness tolerance and finish. After shipment, the mill certificate shows the actual test results for your heat number.

Is 304 sheet good for outdoor use?

304 works well outdoors inland, away from salt and heavy pollution. Near the coast or where de-icing salt is used, it can show tea staining within months. For those sites, choose 316 stainless steel sheet. A smooth finish and regular washing also help.

Do you sell 304 stainless steel sheets in small quantities?

Yes. You can mix thicknesses and finishes in one container, so each size can be a small quantity. For trial orders, ask about stock sizes that can ship with other cargo.
