Why Order DX51D From Us

01

Every Letter of the Designation Checked

"DX51D" alone is not an order. We confirm coat, spangle, surface quality and treatment before production, so the coil matches your line.

02

Forming Grades That Behave as Stated

If your part cracks on DX51D, we help you step up to DX52D or DX53D. You change one grade, not your tooling.

03

Coated on Our Own Line

Our DX51D is coated on our own continuous hot-dip line in Wuxi, 20,000 tons a month. Each coil carries its coil number through to your certificate.

04

Ready for Painting Lines

Zero spangle, chrome-free passivation and tight flatness are available for PPGI substrate. Our own color coating line runs on this base.

05

8–12 Working Days Lead Time

Typical lead time is 8–12 working days for DX51D and the deep drawing grades, and shorter for sizes in stock.

What DX51D Steel Is

DX51D is a low-carbon steel for cold forming, coated on a continuous hot-dip line. It comes from the European standard EN 10346. Some buyers shorten it to DX51 steel, but the “D” matters. It marks a steel meant for hot-dip coating.

DX51D galvanized steel is the workhorse grade. It bends, roll-forms and folds without cracking in most shapes. That is why it is used for roofing, wall cladding, ducts and cabinets. It is also the usual base for color-coated PPGI.

Choosing Between DX51D, DX53D and DX54D

All DX grades look the same on the shelf. The difference shows up in your press. Pick too low, and parts crack. Pick too high, and you pay for forming you never use.

What the Grades Mean

The number after DX rises with formability. DX51D is for bending and roll forming. DX52D adds drawing. DX53D steel is a deep drawing grade. DX54D steel is a special deep drawing grade. DX56D and DX57D go further still, mainly for automotive work.

As the number rises, yield strength falls and elongation rises. That means the steel stretches further before it tears. It also costs more, because the mill controls chemistry and processing more tightly.

When DX51D Is Enough

DX51D handles straight bends, roll-formed profiles and shallow pressings. Roofing sheets, purlins, cable trays and ducts all run well on it. Most color-coating lines also use DX51D base. If your part has no deep cups or tight stretched corners, stay with DX51D.

When to Step Up

Step up to DX52D or DX53D if your parts split at corners or deep draws. Electrical boxes, washing machine panels and range hoods often need DX53D. Step up to DX54D for complex one-piece pressings with deep, sharp features.

Before changing grade, check your tooling and lubrication. Sometimes a radius change solves the crack at no extra steel cost.

Coat, Spangle and Surface Go Together

The grade is only half the order. Z275 suits roofing and outdoor parts. Z100 to Z140 often suits painted panels and indoor parts. For painting, ask for minimized spangle (M) and surface quality B or C. Chromate passivation may need to be skipped if your paint line cannot handle it.

DX51D vs Other Standards

Many buyers treat DX51D as the same as JIS SGCC and ASTM A653 CS Type B. For general forming, that works well. For contract compliance, it does not. A certificate must name the standard your customer asks for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does DX51D+Z mean?

DX51D is the steel grade for cold forming. "+Z" means a pure zinc coating applied by hot dipping. Together, DX51D+Z is the most common galvanized steel grade in Europe and in export markets that use EN standards.

What is the yield strength of DX51D?

EN 10346 does not set a yield range for DX51D. It sets tensile strength of 270–500 MPa and elongation of at least 22%. In practice, yield is often 200–350 MPa. If you need a minimum yield, order a structural grade such as S250GD.

What is the difference between DX51D and DX53D?

DX53D is a deep drawing grade. It has a lower yield range and at least 30% elongation, against 22% for DX51D. Use DX53D for deep pressed parts. Use DX51D for bends and roll forming.

Is DX51D Z100 enough for outdoor use?

For painted outdoor parts, often yes. For bare outdoor parts, Z100 is light. It suits indoor use or mild climates. For roofing, fences and coastal sites, choose Z180 to Z275.

Can DX51D be painted or powder coated?

Yes. DX51D is the most common base for PPGI. For your own painting, ask for minimized spangle and no chromate, or a paint-friendly passivation. Clean off any oil before painting.

How much does DX51D galvanized coil cost?

Price depends on thickness, width, coating weight and grade. DX53D and DX54D cost more than DX51D. Zinc and steel prices move it weekly. Send your designation and quantity, and we will quote within 2–4 working hours. Quotes are valid for 3 days.
